Lighthouse Lacers

October 2021 Lighthouse Lacers Newsletter

The September meeting was attended by eight members.

We had a visit from Carol, who now lives in Jacksonville, AL.

Only items discussed were: the Zoom request from our new IOLI Northern Region Director, Ruth Buck, who asked for days and times to chat with people in her region.

Our Public library has made available zoom slots that can be requested in the event we cannot meet in person in the future.

Change in meeting topic for October.

Sylvia brought in a filet crochet piece, her indija completed project from our last workshop, and bobbin lace pumpkins for show and tell.

The majority of the meeting was dedicated to Cathy Mach helping us learn Needle Lace flowers. She put together a notebook with instructions and supplies so we could practice.

Our next meeting is October 9th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Ocenco, Inc, located at 10224-82nd Avenue, Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Sylvia will be showing us how to do a one pair bobbin ornament. The supply list is below:

  • If you want to make your own one-pair ornament, here's what you should bring:

  • A lace pillow

  • 2 bobbins: 1 pair

  • pins:  at least 100

  • a cover cloth:  Any cloth to put over the pins you have already worked
a crochet hook:  I use size 8 but size is not important.  You just want to be able to grab size 20 thread easily. I will bring several extra hooks, so if you don't already have one, don't buy one.

  • a pin pusher-puller:  You will need to push down and later lift up the pins as you work.
Scissors:  You only need this to cut off the excess thread when finished.

  • Thread  is optional   We will be using size 20 Lizbeth cotton.  I will bring balls of gold, white, red, and green.  If you want a different color then bring whatever color you'd like.  If you want to wind bobbins before you come, put no more than 1 1/2 yards of thread on each bobbin.

This is a quick and easy project.  It takes about 40 minutes to make an ornament.  If all goes well, you will be able to leave with a finished ornament.  I will bring starch and a hair drier to stiffen and dry the completed ornaments, as well as the pricking and an instruction sheet on making picots.  It will be fun.
