Lighthouse Lacers
Wisconsin

March 2023 Lighthouse Lacers Newsletter

The February 11th meeting was held at the Southside public library conference room, 7979-38th Avenue, Kenosha, WI,  from 1-3 PM. Nine members were present.

The following items were covered: Rose will order supplies for convention favors luggage tags. Sylvia will teach at the retreat. Cathy will order Battenberg kits. Hospice tree raised over $500, which is less than previous years. Discussion about should we do wreaths instead, have tree/wreaths moved to other locations as in the past (Sew and Save/ Lemon tree), sell tickets at Senior Center holiday sale, poster at demo. Decision held as we have time to plan. Track volunteer hours.  Helen showed us her bolster pillow ( used to make needle lace), along with a roller pillow she made, prickings, samples, and supplies she has assembled. She was able to make pillows following videos with material at her home. Very informative and interesting with all questions answered.

Sylvia brought picture of koi fish she had done, along with her Japanese project for a mother-in-law, and math theorem bobbin lace.

Several members had items that were brought and re-homed.

If you have spare items related to lacing that need a new home, bring to share with others at each meeting.

March 11th: Retreat at Avalon Parc Clubhouse, 6325 44th Street, Kenosha. The entrance to condo is between Hanson Pools and Sunset Ridge cemetery on Green Bay Road. ( 9 AM til ? with potluck lunch). Bring your own projects, OR, Sylvia also has the bookmarks that she prepared for 2022 retreat available to do. You will need 12 pairs of bobbins, each wound with one yard of size 80 tatting cotton. If you want to use two colors, wind two pairs with one color (workers) and the other ten pairs with second color (passives). The first is a quick pattern so it you want to do others, bring more bobbins and she has five other patterns available. Bring your own pillows and regular tools, she will provide prickings printed on card stock and covered with contract paper, along with starch to spray those finished bookmarks.
