Greeting Lacers

The May 8th meeting was attended by seven members. We were masked and able to maintain social distancing guidelines.  Our president Rose Ann opened the meeting. The following items were discussed:

Hospice Alliance has not gotten back to us on the amount of money raised from the raffle tickets sold for the Christmas tree.

IOLI website has information on teachers, classes, and registration opens for UnCon 2021 Virtual convention to members on May 15th and to non-members on June 1st. Dates are July 25 through August 1, 2021.

RoseAnn reviewed the Bylaws last amended 2012.  No changes necessary.

Roster will be sent out for review of individuals currently on this email.

UnCon 2021 Lace Competition- still time to submit an entry for Lace a moon. Deadline July 22nd. Entries will be photos of your work. See IOLI website for details.

Sylvia led the group in prompts. Tools used when working with lace included magnet with hole for crochet hook, expanding rod with magnet on end to pick up pins, nitpicker for sewings. 

Also discussed collections like Lace Magazine from 2020 that had articles on commemorative robins of hanging victims in Bedfordshire.

Her lace angel designed for the hospice tree was featured in Autumn edition of Lace 2020. 

When talking about influences, Pat said she started tatting after seeing an exhibit at the county fair. Rose started after being at Jan’s house and going to Lace Day at Downer’s Grove. 

Jan talked about a 50 cent McCalls needlework magazine that had a Christmas tree and tatted ornaments and she learned to make chains and rings. 

    “Lace is the poetry of fabric.”

Show and tell - Jan shared her 48 tatted snowflakes and Sylvia had mounted bobbin lace trees on green felt tree stands.  She also had free hanging ornaments on stands displayed. 

The next meeting is
June 12, 2021, 1;00 - 3:00 p.m.  at Ocenco, Inc. located at 10224-82nd Avenue, Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Topic - Sylvia will be demonstrating the following: a square tally, how to make a tally on the diagonal so it looks like a diamond, and how to make a leaf shaped tally. 

She will be providing a two page handout that explains what she will be demonstrating snd a pricking to use for practice. 

She is also working on a You Tube video. 

 If unable to attend meeting, email her at and she will send handouts (and You Tube link when it is available).

Ocenco does not require mask wearing, but at the start of the meeting we are going to suggest you wear a mask.  If you are choose to follow the current CDC guidelines that a mask is not needed for vaccinated individuals indoors, we will accept your decision.  To mask or not will be an agenda item.
